Genesis 5: 18 – 22
Enoch is mentioned in the Book of Genesis as the seventh generation from Adam and the father of Methuselah. According to the Bible, Enoch “walked with
God: and he was not; for God took him.” Enoch was one of only two people in the Bible who were said to have been chosen to escape death by God, the other being Elijah. While much is not known about him, but the two testimonies that he walked with God” and “pleased God” are challenging for us as modern day Christians.
In both Jewish and Christian traditions, Enoch is seen as a model of righteousness and faith. The life of Enoch shows clearly that God rewards those who walk with him. From the life of Enoch, let us see what it takes to walk with God.
What does it take to walk with God?
What does it mean that Enoch “walked with God?” Does it mean that Enoch went literally strolling with God, as God did with Adam and Eve in Paradise? The phrase “walking with God” must be understood in a spiritual sense. It is a typical biblical expression for the relationship God’s children have or should have to Him. It is all about intimacy with God.
Intimacy is a close personal relationship that exists between two people.
Intimacy is something personal or private that you do or say. In intimacy there is closeness and trust which happens through an exchange of values. Spiritual
intimacy therefore is having a close and personal relationship with God to a
level that you can talk about anything together. Through the life of Joseph we
- can discover a person who had very deep spiritual intimacy with God. I
